Why get a natural tree?
Natural trees use ten times less basic materials to produce and five times less energy than a plastic tree. Their CO2 emission is four times lower and all waste is reusable.
A Christmas tree can be recycled. It can be chipped into mulch or used for park footpaths or bridleways. It can increasingly be used as a renewable fuel, every tree used at Christmas with our supplier is replaced with a new seedling in the spring of the next year.
Why Nordmann Fir Christmas trees?
The Nordmann Fir is a superior indoor tree with needles that will stay attached throughout the festive season. They are a rich dark green colour and have a symmetrical shape. It’s soft needles are ideal for decorating with children.
How to care for your Christmas tree
1) Prepare the trunk
Just like you would cut the stems of flowers before placing them in water, do this to your tree so it can draw up water through its bark. Saw off the bottom 1” (3cm) to create a fresh cut and open up the base, which can otherwise fill up with sap and block water take up.
2) Temperature
Keep your tree away from heat sources such as radiators and fireplaces as heat will dry out the tree quickly. The further away from a heat source the better. Also keeping your tree in stable temperatures rather than those that fluctuate will also lengthen the life of your tree. The best location for a tree is by a window.
3) Watering
Place your tree in fresh water (rather than soil or sand). It is best to get a Christmas tree-stand with a water reservoir that you can top up. Keep the tree-stand topped up with water, it may drink up to 1-2 litres of water per day depending on your central heating settings. It is best not to let the level of the water in the stand drop to below the trunk end as the trunk will reseal, preventing water uptake, even if you refill.
Please be aware that all trees drop needles, all year around and a few needles is completely normal. If the tree sheds excessively then this is because the tree is too dry and has not been watered enough. Following the above guidelines will maximise your tree’s freshness and longevity.
